Chardonnay
One of the most commonly grown grapes in the world, Chardonnay is now also one of the most popular white wines in the world. A dry, medium bodied, versatile wine, Chardonnay originated in the small village of Chardonnay in French region of Burgundy (one the main grapes used in the production of Champagne and the only grape used for Chablis) and is now produced in areas such as Australia, California, Chile and New Zealand. Leaner, un-oaked Chardonnays are great with options such as seafood and chicken dishes where the crispness, minerality and delicate flavour profile works well. Richer, full-bodied oak-aged Chardonnays, with flavours of creamy butter and vanilla, pair well with heavier, more robust fish dishes as well as white meats.
