Rioja

The Rioja region boasts beautiful countryside and a fascinating history dating back to medieval times – and also happens to be the most famous wine producing region in Spain. Located in the north of the Iberian Peninsula and mixing rich tradition with modern innovation, Rioja is best known for it’s red wines made predominately from Tempranillo grapes. Flavours of ripe dark fruits, spice on the palate, and long barrel ageing are the key to Rioja wines popularity. On the label of most Rioja wines you will also fine reference to its age: Crianza which spends a minimum of 6 months in oak barrels. Reserva which requires a minimum of 12 months barrel ageing, and Gran Reserva wines which require a minimum of 2 years barrel ageing.
