Burgundy

The French wine region of Burgundy – also know as Bourgogne -is located in eastern central France and famed for its production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Relatively small in geographical size, but huge in reputation and popularity, Burgundy consists of 5 primary wine growing regions; Chablis, Cote de Nuits, Cote de Beaune, Cote Chalonnaise and Maconnais. Wines from this region are divided into 4 distinct classification levels, that are designed to signify quality. Regional wines, which make up just over 50% of the wines produced here, followed by Village wines, Premier Cru and finally Grand Cru wines. If you like east, drink fresh whites such as unoaked Chardonnay or bright, dry and light reds, Burgundy is the place to start!
