WELCOME TO OUR August GRAPE OF THE MONTH FEATURE – THIS MONTH showcasing a light, fruity wine producing grape: Pinot noir
A thick skinned grape that thrives in moderate climates (such as Burgundy in France) with just enough sunshine to ripen the grapes – good quality Pinot Noir wines are noted for their versatility and elegance.
Susceptible to a range of grape diseases, Pinot Noir, also know by other names Pinot Nero, Spatburgunder and Blauburgunder, can be notoriously fickle and require a lot of care and attention – but we think the the end product is worth it! Grown in a few different regions throughout the world, the most popular in terms acres are as follows: France, USA, Germany, New Zealand and Italy. Pale in colour compared to most other red wine, Pinot Noir offers a flavour profile of lighter summer fruits, such as strawberry, raspberry and red cherry, while aged Pinot Noir can develop a lovely rich earthiness. Having said all that, the proof of any wine is in the tasting, and we have chosen options from France, USA & New Zealand to showcase for you this month…
